Target engagement has long been recognized as pivotal to targeted drug efficacy and now Pelago Bioscience (https://www.pelagobio.com/) has added a new and unique dimension to this valuable assay, as it enables measurements to be made within cellular systems under physiologically relevant conditions.  For the first time, researchers can now measure directly how a compound interacts with its target protein within the cell and even within patient tissue.

Do you need to regain control of your samples? Do you want to consolidate sample management systems and compound inventories? If you are considering a sample management software solution then take a look at what Titian Software (http://www.titian.co.uk/) have to offer. They can provide a Mosaic solution for any scale of sample management requirement, from managing individual freezers to enterprise-level centralised storage and distribution of samples. nanoMIPs (developed by MIP Diagnostics,http://www.mip-dx.com/) are nanostructured Molecularly Imprinted Polymer particles typically containing a single binding site. Data recently published by the University of Leicester compares nanoMIPs prepared for small molecule templates with commercial antibodies in competitive ELISAs. The results showed that such imprinted nanoparticle-based assays demonstrated detection limits in the pM range and that polymer-coated mircoplates are stable to storage at room temperature for at least 1 month.

The purification of proteins typically relies on traditional ion exchange (IEX), hydrophobic interaction (HIC) or size exclusion chromatography (SEC). Although these techniques are relatively ‘gentle’, obtaining the desired level of purity often requires many sequential and repeated purification steps. Each column pass has inherent losses that collectively reduce the yield of the final purified product and thereby increase production time and costs.

If so, take a look at the NEW Extractman from  Gilson (http://www.gilsonuk.com/). Extractman offers a faster, gentler magnetic mixing approach to isolating target proteins and is ideal for isolating elusive, weakly-bound protein complexes critical to protein interaction research.

Applications include:

-Magnetic bead-based protein isolation,

-Co-immunoprecipitation,

-Immunoprecipitation.
